Faux Attraction Posters, Vol. 1

I've always loved the attraction posters that line the entrances to Disney parks around the world. One of my proudest moments was when one of my own designs was on display under Main Street Station at Disneyland Paris.

In my free time, or in-between projects, I'll often do some free exercises to keep myself occupied. Usually I'll work toward some result related to my interests… This means I've done my share of faux retro attraction posters, among other things.

Here are some of those I made for Disneyland Paris attractions, most of which never had a poster to begin with. These were heavily inspired by the original 1950s/1960s posters from Disneyland California.

This was the first one I made. I was fortunate enough to work on the Keelboats during their brief revival for the park's 15th anniversary and it remains my favorite "on stage" job. Since the Keelboats never had their own poster I made this one based on the first Disneyland Frontierland posters.

Indiana Jones was another pretty straight-forward adaptation of the mid-century Disneyland style for an attraction that never got its own poster.

The Casey Junior poster started out like the others but I eventually departed a bit from the Disneyland/travel poster look for a "softer" storybook style.

This is another exception in that the attraction featured did actually have its own poster. I just felt like doing this one so I decided to ignore my own "rule." I enjoyed recreating the look of the original 1977 Star Wars logo which fit quite well with the graphic style.

I hope you enjoyed these. I have more to share at some later date.

  1. These are exceptional - I especially love the Casey Jr. poster. (To this day I'm terrified of Disneyland Paris' Indiana Jones ride, as it was the first roller coaster I ever went on.)

    1. Thank you! Personally I feel that you don't miss too much if you don't ride Indiana Jones et le Temple du Péril; the queue and boarding area has some really great theming, though.

  2. Fantastic! Casey's my favorite, too -- and I like your Star Tours poster even better than the one that debuted with the attraction! Love that you included Sallah and Short Round and (Willie?) on Indy!

    1. Thanks! Yes, I think I intended that to be Willie Scott. Though of course it could just as well be a new love interest for Doctor Jones...
